ELLIPTIC WEYL GROUP ELEMENTS AND UNIPOTENT ISOMETRIES WITH p = 2
نویسنده
چکیده
Let G be a classical group over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 2 and let C be an elliptic conjugacy class in the Weyl group. In a previous paper the first named author associated to C a unipotent conjugacy class Φ(C) of G. In this paper we show that Φ(C) can be characterized in terms of the closure relations between unipotent classes. Previously, the analogous result was known in odd characteristic and for exceptional groups in any characteristic.

متن کاملAlgebraic Characterization of the Dynamical Types of Isometries of the Hyperbolic 5-space
Let M(n) denote the group of orientation-preserving isometries of H. Classically, one uses the disk model for H to define the dynamical type of an isometry. In this model an isometry is elliptic if it has a fixed point on the disk. An isometry is parabolic, resp. hyperbolic, if it is not elliptic and has one, resp. two fixed points on the conformal boundary of the hyperbolic space. If in additi...
متن کاملResearch Summary and Plan
My research focuses on topics related to unipotent classes and Springer theory for algebraic groups. These concepts are intimately related to the representation theory of Weyl groups. I have recently also become interested in complex reflection groups, which can be viewed as generalizations of Weyl groups. Combinatorial methods and algorithms have a long history as a means for studying all of t...
متن کاملUnipotent Elements in Small Characteristic
0.1. Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic exponent p ≥ 1. Let G be a reductive connected algebraic group over k. Let U be the variety of unipotent elements of G. The unipotent classes of G are the orbits of the conjugation action of G on U . The theory of Dynkin and Kostant [Ko] provides a classification of unipotent classes of G assuming that p = 1. It is known that this cl...
متن کاملOn Kostant’s Partial Order on Hyperbolic Elements
We study Kostant’s partial order on the elements of a semisimple Lie group in relations with the finite dimensional representations. In particular, we prove the converse statement of [3, Theorem 6.1] on hyperbolic elements. A matrix in GLn(C) is called elliptic (resp. hyperbolic) if it is diagonalizable with norm 1 (resp. real positive) eigenvalues. It is called unipotent if all its eigenvalues...
